From a small family company, founded in Zadar in the difficult times of the Homeland War, Arbacommerce has grown into an important processor of small pelagic fish and a respected business partner of the Croatian fishermen as well as buyers from all over Europe.
Being an important source of high-quality sardines and anchovies, the Adriatic Sea has great significance for the fish processing industry along the Adriatic coast and the European part of the Mediterranean. Fish processing was the niche that needed to be exploited, to fill the gaps created by the war and the disintegration of the market following the break–up of Yugoslavia. With this aim, we joined the fisheries sector in 1999.
At the beginning, our only option was to collect and deliver the fish to factories that needed raw material. In 2007, we completed the construction of our first processing plant and obtained the license, which allowed us to expand our activities to production and export. In 2012, the second plant was built, and in 2019 the two separate facilities were merged into one, and continued to operate under a single license HR 2961 EU.
Today these plants serve for the freezing of sardines (lat. Sardine pilchardus) and the freezing, salting and marinating of anchovies (lat. Engraulis encrasicolus).
We employ 80 to 100 people, depending on the part of the year.
